Baden, Napier Voted Baseball Conference All-Stars
Infielders Matt Baden and Corey Napier represented St. Mary’s College of Maryland on the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference All-Conference Baseball Teams as announced by Tom Byrnes, the conference commissioner, Wednesday afternoon. Both Baden and Napier garnered second team honors.

It took 12 innings but top-seeded Salisbury University posted a 6-5 victory over St. Mary’s College of Maryland in the third round of the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tournament Saturday morning as first-year shortstop Joey Jones sent one out of the park to help the Sea Gulls avoid elimination.

Seahawk Baseball Succumbs to Frostburg State in CAC Tournament Second Round
In the second round of the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tournament Friday afternoon, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team seemed poised to head into third round action undefeated but the third-seeded Seahawks lost a 5-0 lead and No. 2 seed Frostburg State University rallied for a 6-5 victory.

For the third time this season, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team has handed University of Mary Washington a loss as the third-seeded Seahawks (19-14) posted a convincing 8-2 victory over No. 4 seed Mary Washington (21-13) in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tournament Thursday afternoon.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Catholic University were suppose to complete two, seven-inning non-conference games Saturday afternoon but Mother Nature had other ideas as squads played just one rain-shorten contest which St. Mary’s claimed by a 6-4 decision in five innings.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland (15-11, 8-7 CAC) and No. 22 University of Mary Washington (16-7, 6-6 CAC) needed seven extra innings to decide Saturday’s Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader as the Seahawks posted a 4-3 victory in 14 innings to claim the first game before Mary Washington rebounded with a 10-2 win in the allotted seven innings to capture the nightcap.

Eisenberg (1-0) hurled 7.0 solid innings as he scattered five hits, giving up just one run and one walk.

Jerrard Earns Weekly League Honor
Capital Athletic Conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes, announced Monday afternoon that sophomore Devon Jerrard became the second St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball player to earn Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors as Jerrard won the award for the week ending March 6. He shares the honor with York (Pa.) College’s Andy Rosenzweig.

After notching a four-run victory yesterday over nationally-ranked Salisbury University, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team could not repeat on the Eastern Shore Saturday afternoon. St. Mary’s (7-6, 2-4 CAC) suffered two setbacks at the hands of the No. 23 Sea Gulls. Salisbury (6-3, 5-1 CAC) posted 8-5 and 11-1 decisions over the Seahawks.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland President Dr. Joseph Urgo threw out the first pitch on a gusty Saturday afternoon to celebrate the 2011 Seahawk home opener, bringing good fortune to the team in the process. St. Mary’s (3-2) swept the visiting Beavers of The City College of New York (0-2) with a 25-2 rout in the first game followed by a 10-6 win in the nightcap.
