St. Marys Fourth Seed in CAC Baseball Tourney
North Huntington, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) commissioner, Tom Byrnes, announced yesterday the pairings for the 2008 CAC Baseball Tournament and St. Mary's College of Maryland earned the fifth seed in the tournament by virtue of its 9-9 mark in conference play.
The Seahawks (16-17-1, 9-9 CAC) will face fourth-seeded Wesley College (23-11, 10-8 CAC) in Dover, Del. on Tuesday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. The Wolverines edged St. Mary's, 2-1, in the three-game series during the regular season. Wesley posted a 9-8 victory at home on March 20 then dropped the first game of the doubleheader at St. Mary's, 7-2, on March 22. WC rebounded with a 7-5 win in the nightcap.
St. Mary's brings a three-game unbeaten streak into Tuesday's action as the Seahawks played to a 3-3 draw in 13 innings against Catholic University on April 10 and then swept Gallaudet University in a twinbill this past Saturday.
Wesley has not played since dropping an 11-3 decision on the road to Rowan University on April 8.
Salisbury University (32-1, 18-0 CAC) clinched the top seed and Villa Julie College (18-15-1, 7-11 CAC) won two of three this week versus York (Pa.) College (12-22, 7-11 CAC) to pass the Spartans for fifth place heading into the tournament.
The tournament will continue with second-round action Thursday, April 17, followed by the survivors of the double-elimination tournament advancing to weekend action (April 19-20) at the site of the highest remaining seed.
