Baden Named to All-CAC Team

Matt Baden

St. Mary's City, Md. - Tom Byrnes, the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Commissioner, released the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Baseball All-Conference Teams Monday morning and freshman shortstop Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) was St. Mary's College of Maryland lone representative.  Baden earned a spot on the All-CAC Second Team in his first year as a Seahawk.

As a rookie, the 6-1 infielder finished third on the squad in hitting with a .300 batting average on a second-best 39 in a team-high 130 at-bats as the Seahawks' leadoff hitter.

Baden crossed home plate team-best 31 times, while driving in 14 runs to tie for sixth on the team.  He boasted a .415 slugging percentage as well as a .389 on-base percentage.

Starting 33 of 36 games played in, he was perfect on the bases with 13 stolen bases in 13 attempts, while owning a .901 fielding percentage.  Baden helped turn 17 double plays.

St. Mary's finished the 2008 campaign with a 19-21-1 overall record and a 9-9 mark in league action as the Seahawks went 0-2 in the 2008 CAC Tournament.
