The athletic training room is open to all varsity student-athletes. One of the two certified athletic trainers will evaluate injuries incurred by athletes during practices and games. Treatment through therapeutic modalities is administered in the athletic training room by the certified trainers.
The weight room is also utilized for therapeutic exercise and in overall conditioning of the athlete during rehabilitation. The Sports Medicine Department also assists in the presentation of various educational programs during the school year, on such subjects as drugs and alcohol, nutrition, injury prevention, weight lifting, etc.
The SMCM Health Center is a full-service stop for students and provides over-the-counter remedies. A certified nurse practitioner and registered nurse are on duty from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and are available to see students by appointment and/or to treat minor emergencies on a case-by-case basis. A physician is on campus once a week to see students by appointment.
The Counseling Center is available to take care of a variety of problems that may arise during the school year. The Counseling Center also assists the Sports Medicine Department by helping to educate athletes on eating disorders.
