St. Mary's City, Md. - The new Seahawk mascot made its first appearance during the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey game this past Wednesday, interacting with fans and doing the Hawk shuffle here and there.
And on this calm, sunny afternoon, the mascot's name was also unveiled. The name came about as a result of the ‘Name the Seahawk' contest that was opened to all St. Mary's students. Lisa Cote and Jordan Gaines both submitted the name which was selected by the Seahawk Committee. Both Lisa and Jordan were awarded gift cards to the campus bookstore. The fact that athletics was able to acquire a new mascot is due in large to the Class of 2008 who donated money towards the purchase of a new mascot as part of their senior class gift.
