132 Seahawk Scholar-Athletes Named to 2008-09 CAC All-Academic Team
Tom Byrnes, commissioner of The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC), announced Monday morning that 920 student-athletes from the nine member institutions competing in 19 championship sports were named to the 2008-09 CAC All-Academic Team.

St. Mary’s Athletic Department Announces End-of-the-Year Award Winners
As the 2008-09 academic year comes to a close, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Department of Athletics and Recreation handed out its annual end-of-the-year awards Tuesday afternoon. Emily Smithson, Sarah Grady, Bobby Wiley, Lauren Carrier, and Camontae Griffin were all recognized for their efforts on the academic and athletic fronts.

Athletics Honors 23 New Chi Alpha Sigma Inductees
The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Department of Athletics and Recreation inducted its sixth class into the Maryland Beta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society, during a close-knit ceremony at the Athletic Recreation Center Thursday afternoon.

Baseball, Women’s Lacrosse Experience Schedule Changes
With Mother Nature dumping about a foot of snow on the campus of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, both the baseball and women’s lacrosse teams have had to rearrange their schedules for this week.

St. Mary’s Mourns Passing of Former Tennis Coach
The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Department of Athletics and Recreation is saddened to report the passing of former head men’s and women’s tennis coach, Paul Spencer. Coach Spencer died peacefully of cancer at his home in Bowie last Friday, November 21.

New Seahawk Mascot & Name Unveiled
The new Seahawk mascot made its first appearance during the St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey game this past Wednesday, interacting with fans and doing the Hawk shuffle here and there.
